Switching Your Beauty Routine

Written by Jamika, the founder of ROSEN

The weather is getting warmer which has us thinking: have you started making changes in your beauty routine? Some folks like a tried and true, steady routine, while some of y'all are so excited to try the newest product you might even be making switches before you run out of your old favorite! Rest-assured, changes in the weather usually means most people are making some type of change.

HOW TO MAKE CHANGES IN YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE

There are a lot of things to look out for before you just go switching your routine, so make sure to take a look at these steps before you make a big switch.

1) TAKE IT EASY

Don't overwhelm your skin. Trying too many new products at once might not only cause irritation that wouldn't have occurred if you introduced the products independently, but it also makes it harder to know which product wasn't working for your skin if you start them all at once.

2) PATCH TEST

Super sensitive? It's always best to try out a small amount of a product on a small part of your face or neck to see how your skin reacts to it. Then, slowly begin incorporating it every other day to every day after you're confident that you're good to go.

3) PURGING

Now, some ingredients like acids, retinoids, exfoliants, benzoyl peroxide or vitamin c can cause purging. These are all products that increase the cell turnover of your skin, so if you notice areas of your face that you usually breakout at are more sensitive or breaking out, this is probably purging. Not to be confused with just plain old breakouts that happen on an entirely new part of your face. With that being said, purging usually lasts anywhere from 3-6 weeks at the most and can just be a part of the routine of new products getting the gunk out of your face.

  • Been using the Fade Routine for 4 weeks (love it so far but waiting for that 6 week mark to really see if it works for me or not) and went totally cold turkey on my other products! Wish I’d known to slowly introduce the products, instead…That is really helpful info! Rosen should put this info somewhere in the instructions for new users. Haven’t had any MAJOR breakouts, but wondering if my skin would be a little more tame had I known to make the transition more slowly.
