Acne is Normal: Emily

"ACNE IS ACTUALLY VERY COMMON. SO WHY DO WE FEEL SO ASHAMED OF IT?"

It wasn’t until I took to Instagram to share my skin story that I realiZed just how many people are struggling with the same issues. Unfortunately, the idealism of perfection has lead us to think that acne is ugly or unusual. But it really isn’t!! The support and messages that I receive on a daily basis demonstrates just how many other people have struggled with acne in their lifetime. We need to remove the stigma around it.

There are SO many reasons why we get acne, and everybody is so different. There are thousands of different ‘cures’ out there, but they don’t work for everybody. It is very important to find what works for your body, as no two people are the same. I strongly believe that stress plays a big part in causing acne, and these days we all struggle with stress at some point in our lives. We must stop being so hard on ourselves!

Acne is normal and does not mean that you dirty, ugly or broken. It does NOT mean that you are not enough or unworthy.

It DOES mean that you are still beautiful, that you are more than enough and that you are amazing!

Stop letting the media fool you into thinking that perfection exists, it doesn’t. We are all unique and wonderfully beautiful in our in ways. Keep focusing on your journey and remember that you are not alone.
